She Is Gone by David Harkins

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile cause she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want:  smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Another World

Once upon a time there was a girl
Who shunned herself from the world
Claiming that its love and beauty was just an illusion
To be blinded, manipulated, trapped in heartache and confusion
That the truth is hidden beneath a dark veil
And once lifted, revealing the domicile of hell
So she ran far, far away
From civilization, she ran night and day
Until she found herself very alone
Loneliness, silence, and darkness was only known

Many hours have gone by, and not a soul in sight
The moon has been eerily still, as she watched in the endless night
Gigantic trees, bearing their nakedness, surrounded the girl
No color, no leaves, no grass, in this inexplicable world
Only did her feet stand on the muddy ground
She was lost, scared, she begged to be found
So she walked, trying to retrace her steps
Observing her surroundings as she yelled for help
But all was the same, as she stood, feeling trapped
Until unexpectedly was her shoulder tapped

Startled, she slipped, fearing she was doomed
As she gazed into a pair of round eyes as white as the moon
It was hideous, gaunt, and taller than she
Tattered garments covered from its waist to the knees
Bearing only but a few sharp teeth as it sneered
The girl trembled, her eyes starting to tear
But she couldn't scream, she couldn't flee
Thinking, "If I run, it'll kill me!"
And as this creature's head lowered, not far from her face
It said, "It's not me you should fear, it's this place..."

"I never looked like this, you see
I was handsome, happy, once living beyond these trees
Where there was laughter, love, light than out here
But that place too had darkness, pain, and fear
A world of balance, as it's suppose to be
You must accept it, or you'll end up like me
And living in a place like this, so frightening
Always dark, raining with thunder and lightning
To live a life of perfection is only a dream
I know that now, just look at me..."

His voice was soothing, despite his horrid form
And as he held out his scrawny hand, there came the storm
"I don't understand, what is this place?" as she took his hand
"Not a place for you, my friend."
Their bodies cold and drenched from the pouring rain
"This place is cursed for those that don't believe in love, but loss and pain."
And then she thought if he couldn't escape, how would she?
As he ran off he yelled out, "You must go now before you become like me!"
But her body started to sink in the ground, once his last few words were said
And once the earth swallowed her, she woke up in bed

Imprisoned Heart

Too many times my heart has bled
Too many times they had said
Lies that haunted the inside of my head
Now my heart is dead

They keep each of the pieces inside a separate jar
As if they are too much of a prize to throw away
Simply keeping them behind bars
So that love will never come my way

Who would have thought the gentle turned out to be rough
Watch out for what they say
For it leads to the only thing they want
